Facebook reminds me of great memories (and often not so great memories) every day in my Memories feed. Today I had a silly video from a friend’s birthday in 2012. That friend, Dale Sanders, and I kind of lost touch over the years. I had dinner with him last in 2016 I believe. I learned last year that he had passed away. So, young…so sad.
On the heels of the Taylor Hawkins news and now with Dale’s memory hitting my Facebook feed, I just want to say stay close to the people you love. It’s cliché to say it but it’s true that often we don’t know what we’ve got until it’s gone. My friendship went south with Dale as his friendship was one I “lost in the divorce” but I always loved the guy. There’s no time anymore for me to rectify what separated us or to gain any relationship closure there because we’re always “too busy” to focus on relationships.
Don’t be too busy. Drop that person who you’re thinking about a quick text message to say, “Hey, I was just thinking about you…I hope you’re doing well.” I would love to receive a text like that from a number of people who come to mind. Chances are you won’t be sorry you did.
RIP, Dalers.
