I am a huge music fan both as a listener as well as a former performer. As such, I like listening to music with quality output. I recently added a Sonos Move speaker to our living room and absolutely love the audio quality. But most of the listening I do is through my MacBook Pro into a set of Klipsch speakers and subwoofer.
Spotify is my streaming app of choice. For some crazy reason, the Spotify app on Mac doesn’t have an equalizer function. The phone app does and it works well, but not the native Mac app. And, for some reason the balance from my computer audio “favors” the left side. What was I to do? Enter Audio Hijack by Rogue Amoeba.
Audio Hijack is a full sound capture and playback app with all sorts of blocks with which to build audio chains for various sessions. I don’t use most of the app as I don’t record or podcast or anything like that. But I was able to “sweeten” the audio coming from my computer with just a few audio blocks
It’s pretty straight-forward to use…
- Take the System Audio, boost the bass by 28 points;
- “Magic Boost” the music portion of the System Audio so it’s louder without increasing sound effects volume;
- Apply a 10-band equalizer for the sound I want;
- Push the balance to the right by 20%;
- Send it to the External Headphones port to play through my speakers.
Voila…the sound is MUCH better and balanced. I do also flip it to my Jabra Evolve 65 when I’m using my headset in a Webex call for work with VOIP audio from the computer.
I love this product and highly recommend it for any Mac users wanting to up their audio quality game.
