I don’t usually get bummed out or anything when celebrities pass away. It’s always sad, and you feel badly for the friends and family, but it isn’t something that really impacts my day-to-day life or anything. Some will shed tears and wail on Facebook over it and that always seems a bit hyperbolic to me. But this one touches me.
Taylor Hawkins passed away this morning at 50 years old. The cause of death hasn’t been released yet. Of course, here was a very healthy relatively young man out on tour…I’m sure the rumors are swirling and some of them might even be true. Even if he did die from something drug-related, it is still a major blow to the drumming community to lose him so young and unexpectedly.
He was an AMAZING drummer. His energy couldn’t be matched and he had such a tight groove and pocket even with his bombastic style of playing. I watched a Masterclass he did a couple years ago and it was really very compelling. He was also a very talented singer, so really a multi-talented musician.
Rest in peace, Taylor Hawkins. Foo Fighters fans, drummers, and music lovers will mourn your untimely passing and continue to rock on with your music.
