I’ll start out by saying just how blessed I am when it comes to mom figures in my life over the last 49 years. Of course my mom was my actual mom, but others loved me and treated me like I was one of their own as well. One of those people is my amazing Auntie Deb.
I always refer to her as “Auntie Deb” though some of my cousins call her Aunt Debbie. She is my mom’s sister, and she has three kids of her own. That never stopped her from being a wonderful parental role-model to me my whole life, and for that I am truly blessed and thankful.
We lost my mom to cancer in 2016, and Mother’s Day is a tough day still because of that. But I am choosing to dwell not on my loss of my mom but to reflect on what mom taught me in terms of parenthood and how special of a bond I have with Auntie Deb.
Take a moment today to thank your mom, of course, but also take a minute to recognize the village of “moms” who love you like their own.
